The Tourist

Despite my vulgar words and loudness, there are feminine sides of me where I really keep to myself. Contradict with my real act; I too am a slow-motion driver, sensitive, tolerance and I do watch cakap banyak movie rather than the action packed one. Well, Jack Black watched Titanic, so do I am.

Odd and awkward when some of the review in the mainstream newspaper gives badly write up to The Tourist. I grabbed the ticket to ensure what had been reported are fraud and false and I just want to make my own judgment. True enough, what had been reported are pee and baseless. I really don’t understand what is the purpose by giving a black mark to this movie or kinda desperate for a cheap-laugh movie like Hantu Kak Limah. I watched both but it is quite unfair to make it as a comparison. One is clever with billion dollar budget while another one is humor-fooled but lo-fi. Both are in different direction but the IP does count, doesn’t matter where it has been produced whether it is Perak, Paris or Venice.

The Tourist is made tailored to those who are really into love story, Angelina Jolie, Johnny Depp, and all about conspiracy. This movie made you think, analyze and observe the plots while Hantu Kak Limah is a one day story which too cliché to Mamat Khalid, maximum-laugh, and easy viewed. Mamat Khalid’s movie always hailed the folk value by using the vernacular proportion as subject and some cynical ingredients of the local industry scenario. The using of old local hit numbers and some slapstick acts are another value added recipe to rock the cinema tickets. He is static-avant garde movie maker.

The Tourist is one and a half hour screen shows how a mathematic teacher, Frank Tupello facing a financial criminal case when he trapped into the picture after being flirted by an agent, Elise on his journey to Italy. He struggled facing the corrupted cops who ransomed him to the gangsters but at the same time facing dilemma by crushed on the agent. The Tourist emphasized Johnny Depp’s character which is really unpredictable person and it can be considered a fusion of the Jack Sparrow of Pirates character and the hero of 21 Jump Street . The movie also highlights Angelina Jolie’s gorgeousness-aura by showing her irresistible lips and her sexy curve curve. That was my first intention to watch this movie in the first place. The movie also visualized all good location such as somewhere at Rue de la Fayette in Paris and the viewer might enjoy the visual from the train from Gare du Nord to Italy, the Venice waterscape and the scenic view of Italy. After watching this movie, I find that Italy is so adorable and thinking of to get there one day.

The plot of story was very unpredictable and you can’t walk off for pee. Just wait until the last drop. You might think this bugger doing something wrong but he is not and suddenly the real person captured at the end of story. The same moods as you watch the Nic Cage’s Snake Eyes and maybe some James Bond’s movie where your inner part is fluctuating up and down while thinking what is going to happen next. Just focus on the script, captured what they say and careful of what Elise is doing. You won’t realize both of them are cheating you all this while, until the last scene they’ll tell you who really they are. The movie is all about love versus money, Venice, camouflage but at the end of the movie; the answer of all hidden agenda is Frank Tupelo is Alexander Peace. Four star and full stop.
